Examinations: Academic Misconduct

Cheating on written examinations

If an examiner discovers that a student has copied another student’s work during a written exam or that illicit materials were used, such behavior will be treated as academic misconduct and will be reported to the Examination Office forthwith. In such a case, the written exam of the student in question will be graded as ‘nicht bestanden’ (5.0, fail) on the grounds of cheating.
The student in question will receive a notification from the Examination Office informing him or her of the fail grade due to cheating.

Plagiarism in a thesis

If an examiner discovers that a thesis contains plagiarized passages that have been copied verbatim from books, journals, the Internet and so forth without the reference being clearly cited, this behavior will be treated as an attempt to deceive and will be reported to the Examination Office forthwith. The thesis will be graded as ‘nicht bestanden’ (5.0, fail) on the grounds of cheating.
The student in question will receive a notification from the Examination Office informing him or her of the failing grade due to cheating.

Disturbing an examination

A student who disrupts the orderly proceedings of an examination will be excluded from the remainder of the exam by the respective examiners or monitors. In such a case, the written exam of the student in question will be graded as ‘nicht bestanden’ (5.0, fail) on the grounds of cheating. In severe cases, the Board of Examiners will exclude the student from further examinations.
