How to apply

SchriftzugThe University of Freiburg has different application procedures and advising services for different types of academic programmes: Bachelor’s, master’s and Lehramt (teacher education) degrees or professional development.


Bachelor programmes and Teacher education

For those programmes you have to apply directly at the central services of the University of Freiburg. All the information about the application procedure is on the Student Portal of the University.

Bachelor programmes

There is no restricted access to the Bachelor programmes offered at the Faculty of Engineering. That means, every applicant having a German "Hochschulreife" (or an equivalent foreign secondary school degree) and excellent German language skills will be admitted. The final grade of your secondary school degree is not important.

If you want to apply for one of our Bachelor programmes you have two options:

  • Option 1: Application latest until 15th of July
    The Online-Application for the winter term is possible from 01rst of june until 15th of july.
    Please fill out the application form online. Afterwards, please send the required documents to the following address:

    79085 Freiburg
  • Option 2: Application after the 15th of July
    Since there is no restricted access to the Bachelor programmes offered at the Faculty of Engineering, you can enroll yourself latest until 1 week after the course programme started. Please contact the Studierendensekretariat personally and bring all the required documents with you.


Master programmes

Although there is no numerus clausus, admission to the Master programmes offered at the Faculty of Engineering is restricted. The admission committee selects the students based on the whole picture of the application documents (previous academic experience, grades, motivation). The admission procedure and deadlines are different for each programme:
