Matriculation
After you have received your letter of acceptance, in order to study at the University of Freiburg you must matriculate (enroll) at the Registration Office (Studierendensekretariat) (German nationals) or the International Admissions and Services Office (international students). If you register by mail you will receive a letter of confirmation.

Math Foundation Course
Every year, the Student Council (Fachschaft) of the Faculty of Engineering organizes a Math Foundation Course (Mathe-Vorkurs) for first semester students one week before the semester begins. Further information can be found several weeks before the start of each semester on the webpage of the Fachschaft.

UniCard
A few weeks after registration, you will receive a student ID card, the UniCard, by mail. You can find out more about what a UniCard is here.

Uni-Account
After registering as a student, you will also receive an e-mail and IT account for the University’s main IT services. This account is required to register for courses and exams. Find out more about the Uni-Account here

Course Registration
You can design your own plan of study. Certain courses may be recommended for certain semesters, but you make the final decision. Students are required to register for courses in advance in order for the University to plan ahead. Find out more about how to register here. You can choose courses from the Course Overview (Vorlesungsverzeichnis). If you are uncertain which courses to choose, you can refer to the module handbook, a sample curriculum, or the semester timetables.

IT Account for Computer Labs
The Faculty of Engineering has a lab with computers and printers for students in Building 082. You can register for an IT account with the computer pool managers.

Wireless Networks
We have two wireless networks at the Faculty of Engineering campus: the University’s IT Services (Rechenzentrum) network (Uni-WLAN) and the Department of Computer Science network (Mobile Pools, MoPo). You can find out more about how to connect to our wireless networks on your computer here or here

Library Account
Your UniCard is also your library card for the University Library (Universitätsbibliothek, UB). Before your library card can be activated, you must submit a registration form. The registration form can be obtained from the Faculty of Engineering Library (Building 101) or the main University Library.

Exam Registration
You must select the courses in which you want to take an exam before the last day of classes. Please register for exams online.

E-Lectures
Many lectures at the Faculty of Engineering are recorded and made available online for students in the E-lectures Portal. Students can also review lectures in preparation for exams.

Fees and Enrollment
You must pay your student activity fees by bank transfer before the beginning of each semester. This is called Rückmeldung.

Leave of Absence
You may decide to take an unexpected leave of absence for a semester due to illness, maternity leave or a work placement. You can find more information about a leave of absence here.

Semesterticket
With the Semesterticket, you can use all public transportation at no extra cost for six months.
