Full Professorship (W3) for Simulation

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Simulation

to be filled as soon as possible in its Department of Microsystems Engineering.

The professorship is expected to focus primarily on the foundations and the development of methods for numerical simulations. This encompasses for example mesh-based and meshfree discretization procedures and methods for the multiscale modelling of microsystems with a focus on the mesoscale. The corresponding endeavor is expected to offer rich application opportunities in the context of the research priorities of the Faculty of Engineering, in particular those of the Department of Microsystems Engineering. It should, however, not be derived primarily from a particular application field. Interactions with existing activities are possible for instance in the areas of multiphysical microsystems, multiscale materials, neurotechnology and computer graphics. Perspectives for collaborations with the numerical simulation activities at the local Fraunhofer Institutes are welcome. Likewise it is advantageous to contribute knowhow to the excellence clusters of the University of Freiburg (BIOSS and BrainLinks-BrainTools).

Teaching by the professorship will contribute to the German and English-language education programs at the Faculty of Engineering toward the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Microsystems Engineering.

We are looking for an internationally recognized personality. Candidates should have considerable experience in networking, fund raising, including through industrial cooperation, and be willing to contribute to acquiring coordinated research programs and to participate in such programs.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

The University of Freiburg seeks to increase the number of female scientific faculty members and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply for the position. The university is committed to providing a family-friendly workplace.

Applicants with disabilities (Schwerbehinderte) will be given preferential consideration in case of equal qualification.

The following application documents are to be submitted:

·         Curriculum vitae

·         Certificates of degrees and academic qualifications as well as references

·         Complete list of papers and invited lectures

·         Teaching portfolio (the required form can be downloaded from http://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/formulare/lehrkompetenzportfolio-formblatt.doc)

In addition, we require the completed application form provided at http://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/formulare/bewerbungsbogen_englisch.pdf. Submit this form together with the above-mentioned supporting documents by Jan 15, 2016 at the latest.

Applications should be submitted to the following address:

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Freiburg, Georges-Koehler-Allee 101, 79110 Freiburg, Germany. In addition an electronic version of the application should be e-mailed to: dekanat@tf.uni-freiburg.de
