Full Professorship (W3) for Process Technology in Microsystems Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Process Technology in Microsystems Engineering

(Successor of Prof. Reinecke)

in the Department of Microsystems Engineering, to be filled as soon as possible.

The primary research topics of the Process Technology Laboratory are the development of innovative methods for micro-structuring and forming metals, semiconductors and polymers, and the replication of microstructures in these materials. The methods of micro production engineering employed by the Process Technology Laboratory cover innovative ultra precision machining processes; micro-erosion; electro-chemical processes; nanoimprinting; and injection molding, with special emphasis on the development of complete process cycles.

In addition, it is intended that the Process Technology Laboratory should develop new methods of micro production engineering. Potential examples for this are glass machining at the micro and nano scales; novel additive manufacturing methods; or roll-to-roll micro production engineering and hybrid integration of miniaturized components on larger areas.

Engaging in interdisciplinary research and cooperation with other departments at the Faculty of Engineering is highly desired. The development of projects within the Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies FIT and its polymer film processing technology platform is of particular interest.

We are looking for a personality with a strong international reputation and outstanding scientific qualifications. Candidates must have demonstrated potential for obtaining extensive external funding, especially from industry contracts, and a strong interest in participating in coordinated research programs.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

The University of Freiburg seeks to increase the number of female scientific faculty members and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply for the position. The university is committed to providing a family-friendly workplace.

Applicants with disabilities (Schwerbehinderte) will be given preferential consideration in case of equal qualification.

The following application documents are to be submitted:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Certificates of degrees and academic qualifications as well as references
  • Complete list of papers and invited lectures specifying the 5 most important publications
  • Detailed research profile and exposé of 4 – 5 pages stating the planned scientific work
  • Teaching profile

In addition, we require the completed application form provided at http://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/formulare/bewerbungsbogen_englisch.pdf. Submit this form together with the above-mentioned supporting documents by June 30, 2017 at the latest.

Please send your written or electronic application (preferably as a single PDF file including the application form) to:

The Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Freiburg, 79085 Freiburg, Germany or via the email address dekanat@tf.uni-freiburg.de You will receive an electronic acknowledgement of receipt within one week.

Applicants who are invited for presentation are requested to hand in a teaching competence portfolio (http://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/formulare/lehrkompetenzportfolio-formblatt.doc).
