In which fields can I get involved?

Research is always being done, everywhere and in a wide variety of scientific fields. Our current research spectrum ranges from Biomedical Microsystems to Cyber-Physical Systems, Information Systems, Intelligent Integrated Microsystems, Smart Materials and Bioinspired Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Sustainable Material and Energy Systems, Networks and Resilience, Neurotechnology and Robotics to Photonics and Circularity Engineering.

This master's program unites teaching expertise at the faculties of Biology, Engineering, Behavioural Sciences and Economics to offer a coherent course program.

Master of Science Sustainable Materials - Functional Materials

This master's program qualifies for research and development tasks in the field of sustainable functional materials and technologies.

Master of Science Sustainable Materials - Polymer Sciences

This master's program provides students with broad scientific and technological knowledge on selected topics in materials and polymer science, as well as a sound introduction to the various other areas of the physical and chemical properties of materials and the applications and technologies of polymers.

Renewable Energy Engineering and Management (you can no longer register for the course)

This degree program is offered by the Engineering Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources of the University of Freiburg.

The team also includes experts from other faculties at the University of Freiburg, including Forestry, Geology, Law, Medicine, Meteorology, Microsystems Engineering, Philosophy, and Economics and Behavioural Sciences.

External teaching and research institutions such as the Forest Research Institute Baden-Württemberg, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, the Öko-Institut and the University of Applied Sciences Offenburg as well as partner universities in Germany and abroad are also involved.

Continuing Education (online)

Master of Science Solar Energy Engineering

This master's degree program is aimed at professionals and provides relevant technical knowledge ranging from understanding the physical principles of solar cells, solar modules and solar thermal collectors to the development and design of photovoltaic and solar thermal systems as well as the construction of complex plants, power plants, energy grids and more.

Master of Science Intelligent Embedded Microsystems (you can no longer register for the course)

In the Intelligent Embedded Microsystems (IEMS) degree program, you will acquire the technological and algorithmic knowledge necessary for the development of intelligent embedded microsystems / embedded systems as well as interdisciplinary competences in the field of management. The course is part-time.
